Caldwell County Historical Commission

The Caldwell County Courthouse, located in Lockhart, Texas, is often called the most photographed courthouse in Texas, including the cover of “The Texas Courthouse” by Welch and Nance.

Located on the eastern edge of the fast growing central Texas Austin-San Antonio Corridor, Lockhart, Caldwell County is just 17 miles from I-35 and 17 miles from I-10. In addition, Lockhart is only 25 miles from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport via Texas 130 / US-183.

We welcome the surrounding communities located in Caldwell County to supply information, photographs, stories, and other things viewers may enjoy.  Photos and other relative information are greatly appreciated.  To verify accuracy, no addition will be posted unless support documentation is provided.

To contact the Caldwell County Museum (the old jail) please call 512-398-5796, and leave a message on the answering machine or email us at
